Representation Analysis

Representation in media, is a vital thing to tackle when discussing a production. In this post, I will be discussing an analysis of the way representation in different advertisement can impact viewers.

To begin with, this commercial includes both male and female into the production. Even though this production is aimed for a male audience, the incorporation of woman correlates with the message of the advertisement. As stated at the end of the commercial, it states, "spray more, get more." The creators of this piece included this slogan to attract the audience's attention.

Towards the end of the commercial, after we see this grand abundance of woman, seminude with only wearing beach attire, which are only used as a beauty standard, we see a man standing in the middle of the beach spraying himself with axe. The man seems to look happy, and even confident in himself after spraying such product, which immediately connect with the idea of pathos; this scene transmit some kind of emotion to the viewer. The way the man is being portrayed is to make the male audience the reassurance that this product will make them feel the same way that the man is portrayed during the production.

The only function that woman have during this commercial is to show them as an object to man, and is shown to have a certain desire towards this male subject as soon as he sprays himself with this product. We can clearly assume that this commercial is entirely intended for man since it depicts woman as just an object. If a woman were to watch this, it would provoke a sense of frustration by the way they are shown. On the other hand, a male audience would feel empowered, and want to buy the product after watching the advertisement.

This commercials includes the representation of a very wide rage of groups, including races, ethnicities, genders, religions, ages, and even economical status. The whole aim of this commercial is to promote the idea that we are all equal no matter where we come from. The notion that we can all be who we desire to be, and it expresses it in a positive way. It includes different types of people showing them in different styles or clothing pieces that represent their personality, but all together represent the same idea of quality.

This commercial is intended to be viewed by anyone, since it emphasizing in the idea of quality no matter the circumstances one is in. Moreover, this advertisement has a positive connotation on the viewer, implementing an optimistic belief.
